Keeping your teeth and gums safe as you age should be at the top of everyone’s checklist for good physical health. We often tend to neglect our teeth and gums in favor of other health responsibilities, but with an unhealthy smile, several other risks can arise within the body, which is especially true as you age. Over time, your teeth may be at an even greater risk of oral health issues.

When implementing effective oral hygiene routines, never forget to look for new ways to improve your diet. Your diet is often the center of your oral health care, so you will need to limit unhealthy risks that can arise on a day-to-day basis, which can include biting into hard foods, constantly snacking, and foods that are excessively sticky. You should also consider limiting foods that have unhealthy ingredients. Try eating crunchy foods with a high water content to produce additional saliva, and focus on a diet that is high in the minerals, calcium and phosphorus.

Don’t forget to improve your brushing and flossing routines. Every day, you should be brushing twice a day and flossing once per day. In addition, do not use a toothbrush that is worn down or not adequate for your needs. If you struggle with traditional brushing tools, try switching to ones that are easier to use, which can include water flossers and electric toothbrushes.
