Dr. Rouse and Dr. Crosland are proud to use some of the latest technology available to assist in the early detection of cracked and decayed teeth. Using the DEXIS CariVu™ cavity detection device, our dentists at Flatrock Family Dentistry are able to detect and diagnose cracks and decay in teeth so we can provide the treatment your smile needs.

The DEXIS CariVu is a compact, portable decay detection device that works by using patented transillumination technology. This helps us identify occlusal, interproximal, and recurrent decay and cracks without using X-rays. The DEXIS CariVu hugs the tooth and bathes it in safe, near-infrared light that makes enamel appear transparent. Porous lesions, such as those caused by decay or cracking, trap and absorb the light so they appear as dark areas, similar to how they appear on X-rays. This unique decay detector enables us to see through the tooth, exposing its structure and the actual structure of any decay with very high accuracy. Our dentists can then determine the best available course of action and present you with treatment options so we can improve your oral health.
