Everything You Need to Know About Invisalign

Crooked or misaligned teeth can have a negative effect on your self-confidence. If you don’t smile because you want to hide your teeth, you may come off as shy or embarrassed in social, romantic, and professional situations. As an adult, the thought of wearing traditional metal braces can be even worse than having crooked teeth.

This is where Invisalign comes in. Invisalign allows you to straighten your teeth without the discomfort or awkward appearance of traditional metal braces. Because they’re removable, Invisalign braces don’t interfere with eating, chewing, and brushing the way metal braces do.

At Flatrock Family Dentistry, the Greenville community has trusted us with their smiles for more than 30 years. If you want to fix your crooked or misaligned teeth, our board-certified dentists Dr. Christopher J. Rouse and Dr. Khan will help determine if Invisalign is right for you.

What is Invisalign?

As an alternative to traditional metal braces, Invisalign uses custom-fit, transparent plastic shells to straighten your teeth and restore your smile. It can correct mild to moderate tooth misalignment, and because it’s removable, you won’t have issues with eating, chewing, or brushing your teeth.

Invisalign is nearly undetectable to the naked eye unless under close examination. The plastic material they are made of is strong but clear, and it naturally blends in with the natural color of your teeth.

What Can Invisalign Treat?

Invisalign can address issues such as:

  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Crossbite
  • Open bite
  • Teeth crowding
  • Gaps between teeth

Invisalign vs. Traditional Metal Braces

There are numerous reasons why our patients prefer Invisalign to traditional metal braces, including:

  • Invisalign is removable: You’ll never have to brush and floss around metal brackets on your teeth. Food will never get stuck in your braces. And you won’t have any restrictions on what you can eat.
  • Invisalign requires fewer visits to the dentist: You’ll only need to come into our office once every 4 to 6 weeks.
  • Invisalign has a shorter treatment time than traditional braces: The average treatment time for Invisalign is only 10 to 12 months.

The Invisalign Procedure

During your first visit to our office, we’ll take a 3D computer imaging impression of your bite. Then, we’ll send this impression to the Invisalign lab, where your custom aligners will be fabricated.

When your first set of Invisalign braces arrive in our office, they’ll be properly fitted to your teeth. You’ll wear the first set for about two weeks. They’ll gradually straighten your teeth until you’re ready to switch to the next set.
